TikTok Shop Fees in 2026: What a US Brand Pays, and What an Agency Costs

"TikTok Shop takes a 6% referral fee on most US orders and charges no monthly fee. The real money goes on shipping, returns, creator commissions and ads. Here is every fee checked against TikTok's own US seller pages, a $50 order taken apart line by line, and what TikTok Shop agencies charge."

Key Takeaways

  • 1TikTok Shop charges US sellers no monthly, listing or setup fee. The main charge is a referral fee of 6% of each completed order in most categories, and 5% for select fine jewelry and pre-owned goods (TikTok's US category table, checked September 17, 2026).
  • 2TikTok's US fee policy says the referral fee covers all TikTok Shop fees except shipping and tax. Guides that add a $0.30 transaction fee or a 2% to 3% processing fee do not match TikTok's current US rules.
  • 3Shipping usually costs more than TikTok's cut. A 1 lb TikTok Shipping label costs $5.97 to $6.84 in zones 1 to 7, and Fulfilled by TikTok charges $5.10 to ship a single 12 to 16 oz item.
  • 4On a $50 order, TikTok's fee is $3.00. Add shipping and a 15% creator commission and the total reaches $16.83, about a third of the sale, before product cost or ads.
  • 5Agencies that publish pricing quote retainers of about $3,000 to $15,000 a month, 5% to 15% of sales, or hybrids of both, with ad spend and creator samples on top (Social Tale, February 2026).
  • 6Hire a TikTok Shop agency when the product already sells and the work has outgrown your team. An agency multiplies demand that exists. It cannot create it.

Quick Answer

TikTok Shop has no monthly fee for US sellers. TikTok takes a referral fee of 6% of each completed order in most categories (5% for select fine jewelry and pre-owned goods), and that fee already covers payment processing. Shipping, returns, creator commissions and ads cost extra, and on a $50 order, shipping alone usually costs more than TikTok's fee.

If you run a US brand and you are deciding whether to open a TikTok Shop, the fee is the easy part. What decides whether the channel makes money is everything around TikTok's 6%: who pays shipping, what a return costs, how much you give creators, and whether you pay someone to run it.

We checked every number here against TikTok Shop's own US Seller University pages and seller terms on September 17, 2026. That mattered. Several popular fee guides quote an 8% fashion rate, a 2% food rate, a $0.30 transaction fee or a separate 2% processing fee, and none of those match TikTok's current US fee pages. Where TikTok does not publish a number, we say so. We build and run TikTok Shop, Amazon and Shopify channels for US brands, and this fee math is the first thing we work through with a brand.

A SKU (stock keeping unit) is one product variant, such as one size in one color. TikTok can change these numbers by notice, so your Seller Center is the final word.

1. The Referral Fee: 6% on Most Orders

The referral fee is TikTok's commission, taken from each order before you are paid. TikTok's US referral fee policy calculates it on what the shopper paid, plus any discount TikTok funded, minus sales tax. In TikTok's own example, a shopper pays $102, TikTok funds a $5 discount and $2 is tax, so the fee is 6% of $105, or $6.30. When TikTok pays for a coupon on your product, your fee is still based on the price before that coupon.

TikTok's US referral fees by category table applies 6% to almost everything, from beauty and fashion to electronics, food and home. The exceptions: 5% for diamond, gold, jade, platinum, and ruby, sapphire and emerald jewelry; 5% for pre-owned goods; and 3% on the part of a pre-owned or collectible sale above $10,000.

Is Payment Processing Extra?

No. TikTok's fee policy says the referral fee covers all TikTok Shop fees except shipping and tax, and TikTok's US seller terms include the services that let payment providers process your orders in that same fee. If a guide adds a processing or transaction fee on top of 6%, check your settlement report. If the line is not there, you are not paying it.

What About the 8% Rate?

Some August 2026 articles say TikTok raised the standard US rate to 8% on August 4, 2026. We could not confirm it. On September 17, 2026, TikTok's public US category table still listed 6%, and we found no TikTok announcement. TikTok's seller terms say fee changes arrive by email or Seller Center notice, so if a new rate reaches your account, trust your Seller Center over any article, including this one.

New Seller Discounts and Refunds

In 2025, TikTok offered new US sellers a 3% referral fee for 30 days if they made a first sale within 60 days of onboarding, as reported by Podbase and Winninghunter. TikTok's own pages for that promotion now return a “content does not exist” error. Take a reduced rate if Seller Center offers one, but price at 6%.

On a refund, TikTok returns the referral fee minus a refund administration fee of 20% of it, capped at $5 per SKU. On a $50 order that is $0.60. And since November 1, 2025, sellers registered in Texas or West Virginia also pay sales tax on the referral fee.

2. Shipping: Often Bigger Than TikTok's Fee

US sellers ship in one of three ways: TikTok Shipping (you pack, TikTok supplies a discounted label), Seller Shipping (you pack and use your own supported carrier), or Fulfilled by TikTok (TikTok stores, packs and ships). Under TikTok's Free Shipping program, in place since May 29, 2025, sellers pay the postage when they offer free shipping. In return, shops that offer free shipping on orders of $30 or less get extra exposure in search, the Shop tab and the For You feed.

TikTok Shipping Label Rates

TikTok's standard delivery rate card for regular (non-LIVE) orders charges by weight and zone. Zone 1 is close to your warehouse, and higher zones are farther away.

Package weight (not over)Zone 1Zone 5Zone 7
4 oz$3.43$3.63$3.78
8 oz$3.80$4.00$4.10
12 oz$4.20$4.44$4.69
1 lb$5.97$6.33$6.84
5 lb$6.80$8.47$10.24
10 lb$7.53$9.87$11.64

A label covers postage only. The box and the packing time are still yours. Packages worth more than $100 add a shipping protection fee of 1% of their value. In the Greater Los Angeles area, TikTok's Collection by TikTok service picks up packages for free, with shipping rates from $2.99.

Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) Rates

FBT charges per unit, and the fee covers picking, packing, packaging and delivery. FBT products ship free to shoppers by default. Here is the lightweight end of TikTok's FBT rate card, in effect from July 13, 2026:

Weight per unit1-item order2-item order (per unit)
4 oz or less$4.28$2.52
Over 4 oz to 8 oz$4.52$2.91
Over 8 oz to 12 oz$4.70$3.05
Over 12 oz to 16 oz$5.10$3.16
Over 1 lb to 2 lb$5.71$3.92
  • Storage is free for 60 days. After that, daily fees apply, so slow sellers get expensive.
  • You can opt out of free shipping. Shoppers then pay a $5.99 shipping fee on orders under $30, which TikTok keeps, and TikTok pays you $0.75 per unit on those orders.
  • Test TikTok's savings claim. Its FBT overview says FBT cuts per-order cost by 20% to 35% on average compared with mainstream carriers, based on its internal data.

Compare like with like. A single 12 to 16 oz item costs $5.10 through FBT with packing included, against $5.97 to $6.84 for a 1 lb label plus your own packing. For lighter items the gap closes: $4.70 through FBT for 8 to 12 oz, against $4.20 to $4.69 for a 12 oz label. FBT gets much cheaper on multi-item orders, but stock in TikTok's warehouse cannot fill an Amazon or Shopify order, so sort out inventory sync across TikTok Shop, Amazon and Shopify before you split your stock.

We set up Seller Center, choose the shipping model that fits your margins, connect TikTok Shop to your existing store and stock, and run creators, LIVE selling and Shop Ads as one plan. You get the scope in writing before any work starts.

3. Returns and Payouts: The Costs That Show Up Later

Shoppers get 30 days from delivery to request a return by default, and you can choose 30, 45 or 90 days (14 in some categories). Under TikTok's US return policy, when the shopper sends the item back with TikTok's preferred carrier, the seller pays return shipping, even when the reason is “no longer needed.” Shoppers who arrange their own return pay for it, and TikTok's returns guide says it covers half the label on some change-of-mind returns.

Cash flow is a cost too. According to TikTok's Finance and Settlement guide, the payout clock starts at delivery, not at purchase:

Payout tierDays after deliveryWho gets it
Introductory31 daysNew or probationary shops
Standard8 daysThe default for established shops
Accelerated5 daysShop Performance Score of 3.5 or higher
Express1 dayShop Performance Score of 4.0 or higher

The Shop Performance Score is TikTok's rating of how well your shop serves shoppers. Shops active for 6 months or more, with steady performance, can qualify for Early Settlement. It pays up to 90% of an order's value as early as the day after shipping. The fee is 0.5% to 1% of the amount paid early, and TikTok keeps it even if the order is refunded.

4. Creator Commissions: The Fee You Set Yourself

Creators in TikTok Shop's affiliate program feature your products and earn a commission on each sale. You set the rate per product, from 1% to 80%. On a $50 order, a 15% commission is $7.50, more than double TikTok's $3.00 fee. Four rules from TikTok's commission guide and affiliate setup guide change the math:

  1. Target beats open. A target collaboration invites specific creators, and its rate always overrides your open collaboration rate, the one every creator can see.
  2. Raises are instant, cuts are slow. A higher rate reaches creators right away. After a cut, creators already promoting the product keep their old rate for 30 days.
  3. Ads do not cancel commission. A creator video you boost with ads still earns the creator a commission when it sells.
  4. Carousels pay less. Shoppable photo carousels earn 60% of the video commission rate.

Our advice: set a rate you can afford for a year, not one that wins the first week, because pulling back an unsustainable launch rate costs you a month of margin. Budget for free samples too. Samples shipped through FBT pay the normal FBT fee.

5. Ads: No Fee, but a Real Budget

TikTok Shop charges no fee to advertise. You pay for the ads themselves in TikTok Ads Manager. Since July 2025, GMV Max has been the default campaign type for TikTok Shop ads. It is an automated campaign built around gross merchandise value (GMV), which simply means total sales. Ads Manager's general budget rules require a daily budget above $50 per campaign and above $20 per ad group. TikTok publishes no average ad cost per sale, so model ads with your return on ad spend from other channels, then swap in real TikTok numbers after a few weeks.

A $50 Order, Taken Apart

One product at $50, just under a pound packed, sold with free shipping and no discounts. The two columns are two ways the same sale can happen. The 15% commission is an example rate, not a TikTok number.

TikTok's fee is the smallest cost in the second column. Shipping beats it in both, and the creator commission, the one cost you set yourself, is the biggest line of all. If the order is refunded, you get the $3.00 back minus $0.60, your outbound shipping is gone, and the return label is usually yours. If an ad drove the sale, its cost sits on top. Is TikTok Shop Cheaper Than Amazon?

On fees, yes. Amazon's seller pricing page lists a 15% referral fee in many categories, including Home and Kitchen, plus $39.99 a month for the Professional plan or $0.99 per item on the Individual plan. TikTok Shop charges 6% and no plan fee. On the full cost of a sale, it depends. Amazon shoppers usually arrive searching, while TikTok shoppers usually find you in a video that someone had to make or pay for. Our breakdown of what Amazon takes from a $100 sale covers the Amazon side line by line.

What a TikTok Shop Agency Costs

TikTok does not set agency prices, and we found no independent survey of TikTok Shop agency fees. The ranges below come from agencies that publish pricing, mainly Social Tale's February 2026 pricing guide, while Fieldtrip reports US retainers starting at $3,000 and reaching five figures. Treat them as asking prices, not a neutral benchmark. FactoryJet does not publish its own prices, because scope moves the number more than anything else.

What Agency Fees Usually Leave Out

  • Ad spend, which you pay TikTok directly.
  • Creator samples, meaning the product and shipping for every free sample.
  • Custom content shoots beyond creator videos.
  • LIVE hosts, which some agencies charge at $500 to $2,000 per session, according to Social Tale.
  • Ad management fees of 10% to 20% of ad spend at some agencies.
  • Minimum terms. Social Tale says 3 to 6 month minimum contracts are common.

What Pushes Agency Cost Up or Down

  1. Catalog size, and how often listings, variants and prices change.
  2. Creator volume. Recruiting and managing hundreds of creators a month is a staffing cost.
  3. LIVE selling and content, especially if the agency films its own videos.
  4. Ad spend managed, and whether management is billed as a percentage.
  5. Integrations. Syncing TikTok Shop stock and prices with Shopify, Amazon or an ERP (the software that runs your inventory and orders) is technical work that sits closer to ecommerce development than to marketing.

Do You Need a TikTok Shop Agency? A Quick Test

You probably need help if:

  • The product already sells elsewhere and shows well in 30 seconds of video.
  • Your margin survives the $50 order test above.
  • Creator outreach, samples, LIVE and ads have become a full-time job nobody owns.

You probably do not need an agency yet if:

  • You have not proven demand. An agency multiplies demand. It cannot create it.
  • Your margin only works at 6% with no creators and no ads.
  • You cannot ship on time. TikTok tracks late dispatch, and an agency cannot fix a slow warehouse.

If that is you, run the shop yourself first with our step-by-step guide to selling on TikTok Shop.

7 Questions to Ask a TikTok Shop Agency Before You Sign

  1. Does your percentage apply to all TikTok Shop sales, or only sales you drove?
  2. Is ad management included, or billed as a share of ad spend?
  3. Who pays for creator samples, and who approves them?
  4. How many creators will you recruit each month, and how will you report on them?
  5. Will you report profit after fees, shipping, commissions and ads, not just GMV?
  6. What is the minimum term, and do we keep the shop, creators and content if we leave?
  7. Can you show results in our category, with the fees and commission rates behind them?

Is TikTok Shop Worth It for a US Brand in 2026?

The market is real. eMarketer estimated that TikTok Shop's US sales grew 108% in 2025 to $15.82 billion, 18.2% of US social commerce, and forecast more than $20 billion in 2026, with health, wellness and beauty leading its categories. Whether it is worth it for your brand comes down to three questions:

  1. Does the product sell on video? TikTok Shop is a content channel with a checkout, not a search channel with videos.
  2. Does your margin survive the full stack? That means shipping, returns, commissions and ads, not just 6%.
  3. Can you run it without hurting your other channels? You need synced stock, consistent prices and on-time shipping.

Know the downsides going in: new shops wait 31 days after delivery to get paid, change-of-mind returns can still cost you the label, and TikTok can change fees by notice. Our view is that TikTok Shop works best as the channel that creates demand, next to Amazon and your own store, which capture it. Running all three as one system, with one catalog and one stock count, is what our TikTok Shop agency team does for US brands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you pay fees on TikTok Shop?
Yes, but only when you sell. US sellers pay a referral fee on each completed order: 6% in most categories and 5% for select fine jewelry and pre-owned goods. There is no monthly, listing or setup fee. Everything else comes from choices you make, such as shipping, creator commissions, ads, Fulfilled by TikTok or Early Settlement. Refunds also cost a small admin fee plus return shipping.
Does TikTok Shop have a monthly fee?
No. TikTok Shop does not charge US sellers a monthly subscription, and there is no fee to list products. TikTok's US fee policy says the referral fee covers all TikTok Shop fees except shipping and tax. Monthly costs only appear if you add them: ad budgets, agency fees, creator samples, or storage once Fulfilled by TikTok has held your stock for more than 60 days.
How much does TikTok Shop charge per sale?
In most US categories, 6% of the order. TikTok calculates it on what the shopper paid plus any discount TikTok funded, minus sales tax. On a $50 order with no discounts, that is $3.00. Select fine jewelry and pre-owned categories pay 5%, and the part of a pre-owned or collectible sale above $10,000 pays 3%. Shipping, creator commissions and ads are not included in that percentage.
How much commission does TikTok Shop charge?
TikTok calls its commission a referral fee, and it was 6% for most US categories when we checked on September 17, 2026. Do not confuse it with affiliate commission, the separate rate you choose to pay creators who sell your products. You can set that anywhere from 1% to 80%, so on a creator-driven sale your total commission cost is TikTok's 6% plus your creator rate.
What is a referral fee on TikTok Shop?
It is the charge TikTok takes from each completed order for selling on its platform. In the US it is a percentage of the customer payment plus any TikTok-funded discount, minus tax, and it is deducted before your payout. If the order is refunded, TikTok returns the fee but keeps 20% of it, capped at $5 per SKU, as a refund administration fee.
What is the transaction fee on TikTok Shop?
For current US orders there is no separate transaction fee. TikTok's US fee policy says the referral fee covers all TikTok Shop fees except shipping and tax, and TikTok's seller terms include payment services in that same fee. Many guides still list a $0.30 per-order transaction fee or a 2% to 3% processing fee. If those lines are not on your settlement report, you are not paying them.
How much does TikTok Shop cost a month?
The platform costs $0 a month. What you spend depends on your sales and your choices: 6% of sales in referral fees, shipping on orders you ship free, the creator commissions you set, any ad budget, and storage once Fulfilled by TikTok holds stock past 60 days. If you advertise, TikTok Ads Manager's general rules require a daily budget above $50 per campaign.
Is TikTok Shop cheaper than Amazon?
On platform fees, yes. TikTok Shop charges 6% in most categories and no plan fee. Amazon charges 15% in many categories, including Home and Kitchen, plus $39.99 a month for its Professional plan or $0.99 per item on the Individual plan. The full cost of a sale can flip that, because TikTok sales usually start with a video that costs creator commission, content or ads.
Is it better to sell on Amazon or TikTok Shop?
For most US brands it is not either-or. TikTok Shop is better at creating demand for products that sell on video, and eMarketer's research puts health, wellness and beauty at the top of its categories. Amazon is better at catching shoppers who already know what they want. A sensible plan is to use TikTok to create interest and let Amazon or your own store capture the shoppers who search later.
Why does TikTok Shop charge so much for shipping?
Mostly because postage is expensive for small orders. A 1 lb package costs a seller $5.97 to $6.84 on TikTok Shipping's standard rate card, which is a big share of a $15 item. Sellers who do not offer free shipping pass some of that cost to shoppers. When a Fulfilled by TikTok product is opted out of free shipping, shoppers pay a flat $5.99 on orders under $30.
How can sellers avoid shipping fees on TikTok Shop?
You cannot avoid postage, but you can shrink it. Compare Fulfilled by TikTok, whose single-item rates start at $4.28 and fall to $2.52 per unit on two-item orders at the lightest weight, against your own TikTok Shipping labels. Keep packaging light, because both rate cards jump by weight. Bundle products so one shipment carries more revenue. In the Greater Los Angeles area, Collection by TikTok picks up packages for free, and its shipping rates start at $2.99.
What does Fulfilled by TikTok mean?
Fulfilled by TikTok, or FBT, is TikTok Shop's own warehouse service. You send inventory to TikTok's US fulfillment centers, and TikTok stores it, picks and packs each order, and ships it to the shopper. You pay a per-unit fee based on weight, plus storage after the first 60 days. FBT products ship free to shoppers by default and can carry a free 3-day delivery tag.
Is Fulfilled by TikTok worth it?
It is worth testing for light, fast-selling products. FBT charges $4.28 to $5.10 per unit for single items up to a pound, packing included, while a 1 lb TikTok Shipping label costs $5.97 to $6.84 before your own packing. TikTok also says products with its 3-day delivery tag convert better. It makes less sense for heavy or slow-moving items, where storage fees build up.
Why are brands so cheap on TikTok Shop?
Partly because TikTok pays for some of the discounts. eMarketer notes TikTok has spent heavily on discounts and incentives to attract buyers and sellers. TikTok-funded coupons lower the shopper's price, but the seller's referral fee is still calculated on the price before that coupon. Brands also run their own promotions to win attention. If you discount, check that the sale still leaves margin after fees, shipping and commission.
Is selling on TikTok Shop worth it?
It is worth it when three things line up: the product sells on short video, your margin survives the full cost stack, and you can ship on time. The market is large. eMarketer estimated TikTok Shop's US sales at $15.82 billion in 2025 and forecast more than $20 billion in 2026. But the channel runs on content, so brands that will not make or pay for video usually struggle.
Is opening a TikTok Shop worth it if you already sell on Amazon or Shopify?
Usually, as long as you can keep inventory and prices in sync. Opening a shop costs nothing, so the real cost is operational: listing products, handling returns and keeping stock counts accurate so you do not oversell across channels. Brands with product photos, reviews and reliable fulfillment already in place start ahead. The main risk is running TikTok as a separate island with different prices and stock.
How profitable is TikTok Shop?
There is no platform-wide profit figure worth trusting, because profit depends on your product cost, price, shipping model, commission and ads. What you can measure is your own cost stack. In our $50 example, TikTok's fee and shipping take $8.10 when your own video makes the sale, and $16.83 once a creator earning 15% makes it, before product cost and ads. If your gross margin cannot absorb that, the product will not be profitable there at that price.
What are the downsides of using TikTok Shop?
The main ones are cash flow, returns and control. New shops wait 31 days after delivery to get paid. Sellers usually pay return shipping when shoppers use TikTok's return drop-off, even for change-of-mind returns. Commission cuts take 30 days to reach creators already promoting you. TikTok can change fees by notice. And sales depend on video, so a quiet content month usually means a quiet sales month.
How much does a TikTok Shop agency cost?
Published agency pricing falls into three main models. Monthly retainers run about $3,000 to $15,000. Percentage-of-sales deals run 5% to 15% of GMV, meaning total sales. Hybrids combine a $2,000 to $8,000 retainer with 3% to 8% of GMV. Those ranges come from Social Tale's February 2026 pricing guide. Ad spend, creator samples and content production are usually paid on top.
How much does a TikTok Shop agency charge per month?
Agencies that publish pricing mostly quote monthly retainers between about $3,000 and $15,000, rising from basic shop management and creator outreach at the low end to dedicated teams and custom content at the high end. Fieldtrip also reports US retainers starting around $3,000. Your real monthly cost is the retainer, plus any sales percentage, ad spend paid to TikTok, creator samples and any separate ad management fee.
How do TikTok Shop agencies get paid?
Agencies that run TikTok Shops for brands usually charge a one-time setup fee, a monthly retainer, a percentage of the shop's GMV (total sales), or a retainer plus a percentage. Some large partners buy your inventory up front instead and sell it through your TikTok account, making money on the resale. Always ask whether a percentage covers every TikTok Shop sale or only the sales the agency drove.
Is there an agency that can set up a TikTok Shop?
Yes. Many agencies offer setup as a one-time project: Seller Center registration and verification, product listings, shipping and return settings, and connecting your catalog to Shopify or another store. Social Tale's pricing guide puts one-time setup fees at $2,000 to $10,000. FactoryJet sets up and manages TikTok Shops for US brands, and you can also browse agencies in TikTok's own partner directory.
Which TikTok Shop agencies are the best?
There is no single best agency, and most rankings you will find were written by agencies. Judge on evidence instead: results in your product category, a pricing model that fits your stage, reporting on profit rather than just sales, a clear creator and LIVE plan, and a contract you can exit. Ask for the fee and commission structure behind any results they show you.
How do I find a TikTok Shop agency?
Start with TikTok's partner directory at partners.tiktok.com, which you can filter by specialty and country. Shortlist three agencies and ask each for results in your category, a written scope and their full fee structure, including ad management and samples. Then run each proposal through the same $50 order math, so the cheapest retainer does not hide the most expensive deal.
Is a TikTok Shop agency legit?
Most are real businesses, but check before you pay. Ask to speak with a current client, look the agency up in TikTok's partner directory, and get the full fee structure in writing. Be wary of guaranteed sales numbers, requests for your bank or payout login, and long contracts with no performance review. A legitimate agency will explain exactly what it charges and what you keep if you leave.
Is a TikTok Shop agency worth it for brands?
It is worth it when the product already sells and the work has outgrown your team. Recruiting creators, shipping samples, running LIVEs and managing ads are ongoing jobs, not setup tasks. It is not worth it before you have proven demand, because an agency multiplies demand and cannot create it. The test: the agency's fee should be smaller than the extra profit it adds, not just the extra sales.
How do I calculate TikTok Shop fees for a product?
Start with the price the shopper pays, excluding tax. Take 6% of it for the referral fee (5% in select jewelry and pre-owned categories). Subtract shipping: a TikTok Shipping label by weight and zone, or the Fulfilled by TikTok per-unit fee. Subtract the creator commission you set and your ad cost per sale. What is left must cover product cost and profit. Check it against your first real settlement report.
Did TikTok Shop raise its referral fee to 8% in 2026?
We could not confirm it. Some August 2026 articles say the standard US rate went from 6% to 8% on August 4, 2026, but TikTok's public US category table still listed 6% when we checked on September 17, 2026, and we found no TikTok announcement. TikTok's seller terms say fee changes come by email or Seller Center notice, so the rate in your Seller Center is the one that counts.
Are TikTok Shop fees the same in every country?
No. Fees, categories and promotions differ by market, and TikTok runs a separate seller site for each country. That is one reason fee guides disagree: some mix US numbers with UK or Southeast Asian ones. Everything in this guide applies to US sellers only. If you sell in another country, use that country's TikTok Shop seller site, not a US fee table.
