The 10 Best SEO Agencies in the USA (2026)

A meeting room set up for an agency review with an empty chair at the head of the table, representing the process of shortlisting an SEO agency in the USA

"Most agency roundups will not tell you what anything costs. We pulled the live US search results, checked all thirteen agencies against their own websites, and found five that publish real prices. Yes, we are on the list, disclosed, with our weak spots included."

Key Takeaways

  • 1Our researched 2026 list: FactoryJet (disclosed self-inclusion), WebFX, Thrive Internet Marketing, Coalition Technologies, Ignite Visibility, First Page Sage, Searchbloom, Third Marble Marketing, SEO Sherpa, and SmartSites.
  • 2Only five of the thirteen agencies we checked publish any price at all. Third Marble publishes a full rate card, Searchbloom, SEO.co, SeoProfy and Rankstar publish minimums, and the rest quote privately.
  • 3Third Marble Marketing ranks first for "seo company for small businesses" with roughly 493 referring domains, which is proof the small-business end of this market does not require a giant backlink profile to win.
  • 4Google shows an AI Overview on three of the five biggest "best SEO agency" searches, and it quotes agency-published roundups alongside Clutch and GoodFirms. There is no featured snippet on any of them.
  • 5Honest position: FactoryJet has 48 referring domains against 44,604 for WebFX. We compete on delivery model and on winnable long-tail terms, not on domain strength, and we say so rather than implying peer status.
  • 6If you have already decided to hire, the scope and terms live on our US SEO services page instead. This page is for working out who to approach.

The short answer: for enterprise scale, WebFX has the largest team and the deepest in-house technology of anyone here. For small businesses that want to know the price before they sit through a sales call, Third Marble Marketing publishes an actual rate card, which almost nobody in this industry does. For complex B2B subject matter, First Page Sage. And for SMBs and ecommerce brands that want the founder running the account rather than an account manager, that is us, and we explain our reasoning and our weak spots below.

The thing that makes this list different: we checked what these agencies actually charge. Of the thirteen we researched, only five publish any figure at all, and three of those bury it somewhere a normal reader would never look. One states its minimum only inside structured data in the page source. We dug it out and put it in a table below.

Which page do you actually need? This one is a shortlist for working out who to approach. If you have already decided to hire and want scope, process and terms, go to our US SEO services page instead. If your question is about being cited by ChatGPT and AI Overviews rather than ranking on Google, read our best AI SEO agencies in the USA roundup, which is a different discipline.

Disclosure, up front: FactoryJet appears on its own list. Every agency currently winning this search does the same thing, and we verified that. What we add is saying so, showing the method, and including nine real competitors with the places they beat us.

What US SEO actually costs, as far as anyone will say

Cost is the single most common question people ask about this, and most roundups dodge it. Eight of the thirty six questions Google shows alongside these searches are about price. So here is what we could verify on the agencies' own websites in July 2026. Everything below is what the agency publishes about itself. Nothing here is estimated, and where an agency says nothing, we say nothing.

AgencyWhat they publishWhere it appears
Third Marble MarketingThree named monthly SEO tiers, roughly 499, 1,299 and 3,499 dollars, plus Google Ads management from around 499 a month. Month to month, no long-term contract.Dedicated pricing pages, in plain view
SearchbloomSEO from around 3,000 dollars a month, paid search management from around 2,000.Homepage FAQ, inside a collapsed accordion
SEO.coManaged engagements stated to start around 2,000 to 3,000 dollars a month.Services page FAQ, inside a collapsed accordion
SeoProfyStated to start from around 1,600 dollars a month, custom plans only.Structured data in the page source only. Not visible anywhere on the rendered page.
RankstarSelf-listed at around 100 dollars an hour with a 1,000 dollar monthly minimum.A row inside their own comparison table

The other eight publish nothing. Ignite Visibility and Thrive put budget bands in their contact forms, which tells you the size of client they want but is not a price. SmartSites publishes only a generic price band in its structured data. SEO Sherpa has a page called pricing that turns out to be a survey you fill in to get a quote. First Page Sage, WebFX and Onely say nothing at all.

None of this makes the quiet ones worse. Complex work genuinely resists a rate card. But when you are comparing, opacity is a cost you are paying in time, and it is worth knowing which conversations start with a number and which start with a discovery call.

The 10 best SEO agencies in the USA, reviewed

1. FactoryJet, best for SMBs and ecommerce brands (disclosure: this is us)

We build and rank sites for small and mid-sized businesses, mostly ecommerce and B2B. The founder runs your account and does the discovery call, terms are month to month, and reporting is tied to enquiries rather than a rankings PDF. We work on Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and custom Next.js builds, which matters because a lot of SEO problems turn out to be development problems wearing a disguise.

Where competitors beat us: if you want a forty person account team, a national brand campaign or a proprietary reporting platform, WebFX or Ignite Visibility will serve you better and we will say so on the call. Our numbers are in the section below, including the unflattering one. See our SEO service.

2. WebFX, best for enterprise scale

Founded in 1995 and based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, WebFX states a team of over 750 and is the largest agency on this list by some distance. It runs its own technology stack including a client revenue platform and call tracking, and holds Google Premier Partner, Microsoft and Meta partner status. Named clients on its site include Northrop Grumman and O'Reilly Auto Parts.

What the data shows:WebFX has 44,604 referring domains and around 60,184 US ranking keywords, the largest search footprint of anyone here, and holds position two for "seo firms near me", a term with roughly 22,200 monthly searches. If you need SEO delivered alongside paid media and CRO under one roof at scale, this is what that looks like.

3. Thrive Internet Marketing, best for full-service breadth

Founded in 2005 by Matt Bowman and headquartered in Arlington, Texas, Thrive states more than 160 staff across 34 states and ten countries, and has made the Inc. 5000 list for seven consecutive years. The service list runs unusually wide: SEO, paid, social, web build, email, video, marketplace marketing for Amazon and Walmart, and ADA compliance work.

What the data shows: Thrive appeared on four of the five US agency results pages we pulled, more than almost anyone, with an estimated 365,199 monthly US organic visits, the highest of any agency we profiled. Good choice if you want one supplier for many channels rather than a specialist.

4. Coalition Technologies, best for ecommerce SEO

Los Angeles based, with offices listed in eight further US cities, Coalition covers SEO, paid, email and web development, and positions itself around search in the age of AI. It is a Google Premier Partner and displays partner relationships with Shopify, Klaviyo and Trustpilot. It offers month-to-month contracts rather than annual lock-in, which is unusual at its size, and it publishes an interactive budget estimator instead of a rate card.

What the data shows:Coalition ranks position one organically for "best seo agency" and position two for "search engine optimization company", a term with around 22,200 monthly searches. It is also one of the sources Google's AI Overview quotes for that first term, which is a strong signal for a shop of its size.

5. Ignite Visibility, best for franchise and multi-location

Founded in 2013 in San Diego, with offices in Irvine, New York and Orlando. Ignite works heavily with franchise and multi-location brands, stating over 50,000 locations served, and has grown partly by acquisition since a 2023 partnership with Mountaingate Capital. It is a Google Premier Partner and states top one percent status.

What the data shows:Ignite is the only agency named by Google's AI Overview for both "top seo agency usa" and "best seo agency". If your growth problem is fifty locations rather than one website, this is the profile that fits. One small thing worth noting: their homepage and their about page state different team sizes, 340 and 700, so ask which is current.

6. First Page Sage, best for B2B and complex subject matter

Founded by Evan Bailyn, First Page Sage describes itself as an SEO and thought-leadership company that ghostwrites content in complex subject areas. It states a client mix of roughly 65 percent B2B, with named clients including Salesforce, Microsoft, US Bank and Verizon, and it publishes a large library of original research on customer acquisition cost and ROI by industry that gets cited widely.

What the data shows:it ranks position two for "seo firms", a term with around 22,200 monthly searches, and it does that with a blog listicle rather than a service page, which is the same play this article is making. If your buyers are technical and your subject is hard to write about, this is the specialist.

7. Searchbloom, best for ROI-first reporting

Based in South Jordan, Utah and led by founder Cody Jensen, Searchbloom organises its work around named frameworks for SEO, paid and conversion, and puts revenue rather than rankings at the front of its reporting. It has been recognised by Forbes Advisor and Search Engine Land, and it displays Nordstrom and U.S. Bank among its clients. It also publishes its engagement minimums, which most of this list does not.

What the data shows:Searchbloom ranks position three for "best seo company for small business" and is the first agency Google's AI Overview names for that query, so it is winning both the human and the machine version of that search.

8. Third Marble Marketing, best for small business price transparency

Founded in 2009 and based in Richmond, Virginia, Third Marble is the most transparent agency we found anywhere in this research. It publishes named SEO tiers and Google Ads management pricing on dedicated pages, states month-to-month terms with one business day's notice to cancel, and is a Google Premier Partner. It deliberately does not try to be full service.

What the data shows, and why it matters to you:Third Marble ranks position one for "seo company for small businesses", a term with roughly 5,400 monthly searches, on about 493 referring domains. For comparison, WebFX has 44,604. That is the single most useful fact in this whole article: the small-business end of this market is winnable without a giant backlink profile, if you pick your niche properly. One caution, their homepage advertises lower entry figures than their pricing pages, so confirm which applies.

9. SEO Sherpa, best for global brands

Established in Dubai in 2012 and led by James Reynolds, with offices including Miami and London and over 50 staff across ten countries. It works with large international brands, listing Amazon, HSBC, Nissan and American Express, and holds a strong record at the Global Search and MENA Search Awards. We flag the non-US headquarters openly rather than hide it, the same way we did with Onely on our AI SEO list.

What the data shows:SEO Sherpa holds position one for "best seo agency usa", the exact term this article targets, off a single geo-specific page. If you sell across borders rather than in one metro, this is the profile built for it.

10. SmartSites, best for a web build plus SEO together

Founded in 2011 by brothers Alex and Michael Melen and based in Paramus, New Jersey, SmartSites pairs web design and development with SEO, PPC and email, and holds partner status with Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon Ads and HubSpot. It claims over 1,000 five star reviews, which is among the largest review counts on this list.

What the data shows:SmartSites is an interesting case. It did not appear in the top twenty organic results for any of the five terms we pulled, but Google's AI Overview still names it as a pick for "top seo agency usa". That gap between organic position and AI citation is worth understanding, because it shows the two now run on partly different signals.

Two more that keep appearing in these results

These two rank on page one across several of these searches, in both cases off roundup articles rather than service pages, so leaving them out would be dishonest.

Where FactoryJet actually stands, in numbers

Putting yourself on your own list is cheap unless you show the weak spots, so here they are. FactoryJet has 48 referring domains. WebFX has 44,604. Thrive has 9,257. Coalition has 3,073. We are not in the same weight class on authority and it would be silly to pretend otherwise.

What that means in practice is that we do not chase head terms like "seo agency" where the result is decided by domain strength we do not have. We win narrower terms where relevance and quality of work decide the outcome, and we build authority underneath it. Third Marble ranking first for a 5,400 search term on 493 referring domains is the proof that this approach works, and it is the approach we run for clients too.

We have no enterprise case studies to show you and we are not going to invent any. What we do have is a delivery model most of this list cannot offer at our size: the founder runs the account, reporting is tied to enquiries, and terms are month to month. If that trade appeals, the detail is on our US SEO services page. If it does not, hire the incumbent and go in knowing exactly what you bought.

What Google's AI Overview is doing to this search

We pulled the live results for five of these terms on 28 July 2026 and found something worth knowing if you are choosing an agency, and worth knowing twice if you are an agency.

Three of the five now show an AI Overview, and none of the five shows a featured snippet. When Google writes that summary, it quotes a mix of directories like Clutch and GoodFirms, community threads on Reddit and Quora, and, notably, roundup articles published by agencies themselves. In other words the answer you get is partly assembled from articles like this one.

For you as a buyer, that means the AI summary at the top of the page is not a neutral ranking. It is a synthesis of marketing pages, community opinion, and directories that agencies pay to appear in. Use it as a starting shortlist, then check the things that are hard to fake: who does the work, what the terms are, and whether they will put scope in writing.

How to choose between them

Four filters, in the order we would apply them.

One, match the size. An enterprise agency will not give a small budget its best people, and a boutique will not staff a national campaign. Look at the clients they show. If none of them look like you, you are the wrong size for that shop.

Two, ask who does the work. The most common failure in this industry is that the person who wins the account is not the person who works on it. Ask for the name and seniority of whoever will touch your site, and ask it before you talk about price.

Three, get scope in writing. Not a proposal full of adjectives, an actual list of what happens in month one, what happens monthly after that, and what is out of scope. Agencies that publish pricing tend to be quicker at this, which is part of why transparency is a useful signal even if you do not end up hiring the cheapest.

Four, check the terms. Month-to-month keeps an agency accountable. A twelve month lock-in is not automatically a red flag, some work genuinely takes that long, but it should come with a clear explanation of what you get in months one to three.

Methodology

We pulled live US search results for "best seo agency usa", "top seo agency usa", "best seo agency", "best seo company for small business" and "seo agency for small business" on 28 July 2026 through DataForSEO, along with backlink profiles and ranking keyword data for each agency. We then verified every agency against its own website on the same day: services, offices, founding year, team size, partnerships and pricing. Where an agency did not state something, we left it out rather than filling the gap.

Pricing was checked in raw page source as well as visible text, because several agencies publish figures only inside collapsed FAQ sections or structured data. Every performance figure attributed to an agency in this article is that agency's own published claim rather than an audited number, and we have labelled it that way throughout. We excluded directories and publishers that rank for these terms but do not deliver the service. FactoryJet's inclusion is disclosed self-placement. No agency paid to appear, and there are no affiliate links on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which company is best for SEO?
It depends on your size. For enterprise scale and in-house technology, WebFX is the largest team here. For small businesses that want a published price before a sales call, Third Marble Marketing is the most transparent. For B2B and complex subject matter, First Page Sage. FactoryJet suits SMBs and ecommerce brands that want the founder running the account.
Who are the highest rated SEO firms?
Ratings are self-reported, so treat them carefully. Agencies here publishing the strongest review counts are SmartSites (over 1,000 five star reviews claimed), Thrive (over 1,000 client reviews claimed) and SEO Sherpa (4.9 out of 5 from 200 plus Google reviews claimed). Each of those figures comes from the agency, not an independent audit.
How much does SEO cost in the USA?
Most US agencies do not publish it. Of the thirteen we checked, five do. Third Marble lists monthly SEO tiers from roughly 499 to 3,499 dollars. SeoProfy states a starting point near 1,600 dollars a month. Rankstar lists a 1,000 dollar monthly minimum. Searchbloom states SEO from around 3,000 dollars a month, and SEO.co states a 2,000 to 3,000 dollar minimum. Figures verified on their sites in July 2026.
How much should SEO cost for a small business?
The published small-business tiers we found sit in the hundreds to low thousands per month, with Third Marble the clearest example at three named tiers. Below a few hundred a month you are usually buying automated reports rather than work. The more useful question is what the money buys: ask how many hours, who does the work, and what happens in month one.
How much does it cost to hire an SEO agency?
You will meet three models: a monthly retainer, a one-time audit or project, and a performance arrangement tied to revenue or leads. Retainers dominate. Since most agencies quote privately, the fastest filter is to ask for the model and the scope in writing before you book a discovery call.
Is an SEO agency worth it?
It is worth it when you have something to rank and no one in-house to do the work. It is a poor buy when your site cannot convert the traffic it already gets, or when the budget is small enough that you can only afford reporting rather than execution. Fix conversion first, then buy traffic.
Is paying someone for SEO worth it?
For most small businesses, partially. The learnable parts are content, page titles, and keeping your Google Business Profile accurate. The parts that reward experience are technical fixes, site architecture, and earning links. Many businesses do best paying for an audit and a plan, then executing content in-house.
Should I hire an SEO agency or do it myself?
Do it yourself if you have time and your market is not competitive, because the fundamentals are learnable. Hire out when the technical work is beyond you, when you have tried for six months without movement, or when your competitors are clearly investing. A middle path works well: buy the strategy, run the content yourself.
What is the difference between a freelancer and an agency?
A freelancer is usually one specialist, cheaper, and fine for a narrow job. An agency brings several specialisms, survives someone going on holiday, and costs more. The risk with an agency is that the person who sold you the work is not the person doing it. Ask who executes before you sign.
What makes a good SEO agency?
Three things. They ask about your business model before they talk about keywords. They show you work, not just dashboards. And they tell you what they will not do. An agency that promises rankings on a date is guessing, because nobody controls the algorithm.
How do you know if your SEO agency is bad?
Warning signs: reports full of impressions and rankings but nothing about leads or revenue, no clear answer on who does the work, guaranteed positions, refusal to explain link building, and no changes visible on your actual site month to month. If you cannot name what changed last month, that is your answer.
What to expect from an SEO agency?
Month one should be audit, access, and a prioritised plan. Months two and three are usually technical fixes and content work. Expect monthly reporting tied to business outcomes, a named contact, and visible changes to your site. If nothing on your website has changed after ninety days, ask why.
How long does it take for SEO to kick in?
Most sites see early movement in three to six months and meaningful change closer to six to twelve, depending on competition and how much authority the domain already has. New domains take longer. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either targeting terms nobody searches or is not being straight with you.
What is a 3 month SEO strategy?
A realistic ninety days looks like this. Month one: technical audit, fix crawl and speed problems, set up proper tracking. Month two: fix the pages you already have that rank on page two. Month three: publish new content for the gaps and start earning links. Quick wins come from improving existing pages, not new ones.
How to check if your SEO is working?
Look at three things monthly in Search Console and analytics: impressions for non-brand queries, clicks from those queries, and enquiries that started from organic search. Rankings alone mislead, because a term can rise while nobody clicks. If impressions grow and clicks do not, your titles and descriptions are the problem.
What is the 80/20 rule for SEO?
The idea that a small share of pages produces most of your organic traffic, which is usually true. The practical use is to find the pages already earning impressions and improve those before writing anything new. Most sites have a handful of pages sitting on page two that are worth more than a month of fresh content.
What is the difference between in-house SEO and an SEO agency?
In-house means someone who knows your business deeply but works alone and can only be as good as one person. An agency brings range and pattern recognition across many sites but has to learn your business. Bigger companies often run a hybrid: in-house owns content and the agency owns technical work and links.
Is SEO dead or evolving in 2026?
Evolving. Search still sends more traffic than any other organic channel, but a growing share of questions are answered by AI without a click. That shifts the goal from ranking alone to being the source an AI answer cites, which rewards clear factual writing and structured data. We cover this on our AI SEO page.
Will SEO be replaced by AI?
Not replaced, redirected. AI engines still need sources, and they pull those from the open web. What changes is the shape of the work: clean structure, self-contained factual answers, and being mentioned on third-party sites matter more than keyword density ever did. The plumbing is the same, the target moved.
Can ChatGPT do SEO?
It can draft, cluster keywords, and speed up research. It cannot judge whether a page deserves to rank, earn a link, fix a crawl problem, or know your customers. Used well it removes grunt work. Used alone it produces the kind of generic content that search engines have got very good at ignoring.
Which SEO tool is best for small businesses?
Start with the free ones, because they are the ones that matter. Google Search Console shows what you already rank for and is non-negotiable. Google Business Profile drives local visibility. Add a paid tool such as Ahrefs or Semrush only when you have exhausted what Search Console tells you.
Is SEO worth it for small businesses?
Usually yes for local and service businesses, because "near me" intent converts well and local competition is beatable. Third Marble Marketing ranking first for "seo company for small businesses" on roughly 493 referring domains is a good illustration that you do not need a giant site to win in a defined niche.
Which SEO agencies actually rank on page one themselves?
Worth checking, since an agency that cannot rank itself is an odd hire. From a live US pull on 28 July 2026: SEO Sherpa holds position one for "best seo agency usa". Coalition Technologies holds position one for "best seo agency". Third Marble holds position one for "seo company for small businesses". FactoryJet does not rank on page one for these head terms, and we would rather say that plainly.
Should I read this list or go straight to your SEO service page?
If you are still deciding who to approach, stay here. If you have decided to hire and just want scope and terms, our US SEO services page is the better use of your time. We keep them separate so neither pretends to be the other.
How is this different from your AI SEO agency list?
This page covers traditional search: ranking on Google, local visibility, technical work and links. Our companion roundup of the best AI SEO agencies in the USA covers being cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews. Most businesses need the first before the second is worth paying for.
