Comparison of the eight best local SEO companies in the USA for 2026, showing specialisation, contract terms and track record

"We compared eight US local SEO companies on map pack capability, contract terms, published pricing and AI search readiness. Every claim is quoted from the agency’s own site. Full disclosure: we are on the list, at number eight, and we say why."

Key Takeaways

  • 1Our researched 2026 shortlist: Thrive Agency, Searchbloom, WebFX, SmartSites, HigherVisibility, Victorious, Funnel Boost Media, and FactoryJet (disclosed self-inclusion, placed eighth).
  • 2Thrive Agency and Searchbloom were each named in 8 of our 12 AI engine test answers, the joint highest score.
  • 3Searchbloom is the rare US agency that publishes rates: it states SEO starts at $3,000 a month and PPC management at $2,000 a month. Almost nobody else does.
  • 4Local SEO and AI visibility have converged. The signals that win the Google map pack, your Google Business Profile, reviews and directory citations, are the same signals AI engines read before naming a local business.
  • 5Contract terms split the field: Thrive states month-to-month contracts and Searchbloom states "No Lengthy Contracts", while others quote longer minimums.
  • 6Honest position: seven agencies on this list are larger and longer-established in local SEO than FactoryJet, and we rank them above ourselves for that reason.
  • 7This page is a shortlist. If you have already decided to hire, scope and terms live on our local SEO service page instead.

The short answer: the joint strongest US local SEO companies on our testing are Thrive Agency and Searchbloom, each named in eight of our twelve AI engine answers. Thrive is the better pick for multi-service work on month-to-month terms; Searchbloom for a documented framework and, unusually, published pricing. For sheer scale it is WebFX. FactoryJet appears eighth on this list and we explain below why we did not put ourselves first.

Which page do you actually need? This one is a shortlist: eight agencies compared so you can decide who to approach. If you have already decided to hire and want scope and terms, go to our local SEO service page instead. We keep the two separate on purpose.

Disclosure, up front: FactoryJet is on this list, at number eight. Everything said about the other seven was fetched from their own websites on 7 September 2026 and is quoted or attributed. No invented review scores, nobody paid to appear.

Local SEO and AI visibility are now the same project

This is the part worth reading even if you hire nobody on this page, because it has changed recently and most businesses have not adjusted.

In September 2026 we measured what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity actually retrieve when asked to recommend a business. Across 32 answers, the sources were overwhelmingly directory category pages and review-based listings, led by Clutch and DesignRush, with Semrush Agencies, GoodFirms and Sortlist behind them. The engines almost never opened a company's own website. Perplexity described its method itself: it prioritised "agencies that appear repeatedly across multiple sources".

For a local business that is unusually good news, because the assets AI engines read are the same assets that win the map pack: your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and your citations across directories. Ten years of local SEO advice turns out to have been AI-visibility advice as well. If an agency pitches you AI search work that consists only of adding schema to your website, ask what they will do off it.

The eight reviewed

1. Thrive Agency, best for multi-service work on short terms

Founded in 2005 in Arlington, Texas, with a stated "160+ online marketing experts" and operations across 25 cities. It reports a "95% client retention rate" and seven consecutive years on the Inc. 5000, with "150+ Reviews" on Google and "100+ Reviews" on Clutch, both at five stars.

The detail that matters most for a small business: it offers month-to-month contracts at that size, which is rarer than it should be. Published case results include "+427% Top 10 Organic Keywords" and "+68% Organic Conversions".

Consider it if you want SEO, paid and web from one team without a long lock-in. Look elsewhere if you want a specialist doing only local.

2. Searchbloom, best for a documented framework and published pricing

Based in South Jordan, Utah. Searchbloom is the rare US agency that publishes its rates: SEO starting at $3,000 a month and PPC management at $2,000 a month. In a market where almost nobody puts a number on the page, that alone is worth something when you are building a shortlist.

It works to a named framework, ART (Authority, Relevance, Technology), states "No Lengthy Contracts", reports retention "over 95 percent", and lists a Search Engine Land Award win in 2021 with finalist places in 2024 and 2025. It also names Answer Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization as distinct services, so AI search is not an afterthought there.

Consider it if you want to know the price before the call and see a documented method. Look elsewhere if your budget sits below its stated starting point.

3. WebFX, best for scale and multi-location

The largest operation on this list by a distance: a stated "30-year track record", "750+ digital experts", "1,100+ reviews" and 4.9 out of 5 on both G2 and Clutch. It publishes a cumulative "$10,085,355,239+" in revenue driven for clients and a "93% CLIENT SATISFACTION SCORE" against a stated industry average of 72%.

For local specifically it prices by number of locations and states citation management across 40+ local listings, with reporting through its own RevenueCloudFX platform. That structure suits chains and franchises better than a single storefront.

Consider it if you have many locations and want platform-grade reporting. Look elsewhere if you are a single location wanting a small senior team.

4. SmartSites, best for web and search together

States "900+ Websites Launched" and "$100M+ Client Revenue Generated", and holds an unusually complete set of platform accreditations: Google Premier Partner, Microsoft Advertising Select Partner 2025, Meta Business Partner, Amazon Ads Verified Partner, plus Inc. 5000 recognition and a BBB A+ rating.

The web-build volume is the differentiator. If your local rankings are being held back by the site itself rather than by your profile, an agency that launches websites at that rate is a reasonable place to start.

Consider it if you need a new site and local SEO in one engagement. Look elsewhere if your site is fine and you only need local work.

5. HigherVisibility, best for franchise and multi-location

Founded in 2009 in Memphis with additional offices in Atlanta, Chicago and Miami, working to a proprietary methodology it calls The Targeted Growth System®. Franchise SEO is a named service rather than an afterthought, and its published results lean multi-location: "142% YOY Increase in Organic Leads" for Caliber Collision, "191% YOY Increase in Organic Traffic" for HOTWORX, and "124% (ROAS) Return on Ad Spend" for Ziebart.

Consider it if you run a franchise network or many branches. Look elsewhere if you are a single independent business.

6. Victorious, best for award-track SEO programmes

California based, stating "600+ brands served" and an unusual volume of peer recognition: "5x SEARCH AGENCY OF THE YEAR", "183+ Awards" and "75+ awards judged by our peers, 2018 to 2026", alongside 119 reviews on Clutch. It also names Answer Engine Optimization as a distinct service.

Awards are not results, and we would not choose an agency on them alone. But peer-judged awards over eight consecutive years are harder to manufacture than a testimonial page.

Consider it if you want an established SEO programme with external validation. Look elsewhere if your need is specifically map pack work for one location.

7. Funnel Boost Media, best for home services and trades

Founded in 2012 in San Antonio, Texas, and the clearest industry focus on this list: home improvement, home remodeling, home services, automotive, healthcare and legal services. It states a 4.9 Google rating from 257 reviews, is veteran owned, and holds a Clutch award for Top Digital Marketing Company alongside Forbes Advisor Best of 2024 recognition for SEO services.

Its published results are refreshingly operational rather than percentage-based: "4,000+ Leads Generated", "1,900+ Inbound Calls", "1,600+ Forms Submitted". For a trades business those are the numbers that matter.

Consider it if you are a home services or trades business wanting calls, not impressions. Look elsewhere if you are outside its named industries.

8. FactoryJet, for small businesses wanting local and AI search together (disclosure: this is us)

We are eighth, and the reason is straightforward: the seven agencies above are larger and longer-established in local SEO than we are. WebFX states 750 staff and thirty years. Thrive states 160 experts and twenty. We are a small team, and on a page you can verify in ten minutes there is no sense pretending otherwise.

Where we genuinely compete is narrower. We treat local SEO and AI search visibility as one project rather than two line items, which matters more now that the engines read the same profile and review signals the map pack does. We work month-to-month, and on a small account the founder is actually on it. Scope and terms are on the local SEO service page.

Consider us if you are a small business and want both handled together without a lock-in. Look elsewhere if you need franchise-scale coverage or the largest team available. That is HigherVisibility or WebFX, and we have ranked them accordingly.

How to choose between them

Match the shape of your business. One location and ten locations are different disciplines. Ask any agency how many profiles it currently manages for a business your size.

Ask what happens in month one. A good answer is specific and unglamorous: audit the profile, fix categories, clean duplicate and conflicting citations, set up call tracking properly. A bad answer is a strategy phase.

Check what gets reported. Map pack position from inside your service area, calls, direction requests and form fills. If a report leads with impressions, ask for these instead.

Settle ownership before you start. You should own your Google Business Profile, with the agency added as a manager. Never the other way round.

Red flags on a local SEO company's website

  • Guaranteed map pack positions. Nobody controls Google, and the map pack changes by the searcher's exact location.
  • Any offer to generate reviews. This violates Google policy and puts your profile at risk. Agencies can build a request process; they cannot supply the reviews.
  • Bulk submission to hundreds of directories. A few dozen accurate, relevant citations beat five hundred junk ones, and the junk is hard to remove later.
  • Wanting to own your Google Business Profile. It is your business asset. They should be a manager on it.
  • Reporting with no calls or direction requests. In local, those are the outcome. Traffic is not.

Methodology

Three steps, run on 7 September 2026 and repeatable.

Step one. We asked ChatGPT (gpt-5.6), Claude (Sonnet 5), Gemini (3.8 Flash) and Perplexity (Sonar Pro), each with live web search enabled, to recommend US local SEO companies across three phrasings: "best local seo companies in the united states", "which local seo agency should a small business hire to rank in the google map pack", and "top local seo services companies 2026". Twelve answers. Thrive Agency and Searchbloom scored 8 of 12; SmartSites 7; Victorious, Funnel Boost Media and WebFX 6; HigherVisibility 4.

Step two. We pulled the live US Google results for the head terms to cross-check the consensus against what ranks.

Step three. We fetched each shortlisted agency's own website and recorded only claims stated there. Where a site does not state a founding year, team size or location, we left it out rather than estimate it. Boostability was named in 3 of 12 answers but its website returned an HTTP 403 to our fetch, so we excluded it rather than describe it from memory. That is the rule we apply to everyone: if we could not read it today, it is not on the page.

No agency paid to appear. No review scores were invented. Where we place ourselves, we have said so in the sentence rather than a footnote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the best local SEO company in the USA?
It depends on your size and how many locations you run. Thrive Agency and Searchbloom tied at the top of our AI engine test, each named in 8 of 12 answers. Thrive is the stronger pick for multi-service work with month-to-month terms; Searchbloom for a documented framework and published pricing; WebFX for scale with 750+ staff. There is no single answer, which is why the table below compares them on what each is actually good at rather than a score we invented.
How much does local SEO cost in the US?
Most US agencies do not publish rates, which makes the ones that do useful reference points. Searchbloom states SEO starts at $3,000 a month and PPC management at $2,000 a month. WebFX prices local SEO on the number of locations you have. Expect single-location small businesses to sit well below multi-location or franchise programmes, and treat any quote that does not specify the number of locations as incomplete.
What is the Google map pack and why does it matter so much?
The map pack is the block of three local businesses with a map that Google shows above the normal results for location-based searches. It matters because it sits above almost everything else and because searchers with local intent are usually close to buying. For a business with a physical location or a service area, appearing in those three results is often worth more than any other single ranking on the page.
How is local SEO different from regular SEO?
Regular SEO is mostly about your website. Local SEO is substantially about assets that are not your website: your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your citations across directories, and consistency of your name, address and phone number across all of them. You can have an excellent website and still lose the map pack because your profile is thin and your competitor has 300 reviews.
How long does local SEO take to work?
Faster than national SEO, because you are competing with a smaller field. Google Business Profile improvements and citation cleanup can move rankings within weeks. Competitive map pack positions in a dense city take three to six months, and review volume is usually the slowest input because you cannot rush genuine customers. Anyone promising the map pack in 30 days in a competitive city is guessing.
Do Google reviews actually affect local rankings?
Yes, and they now do double duty. Review quantity, recency and rating feed the map pack directly. They also feed AI answers: when someone asks ChatGPT for a recommendation in their city, review-based directories are among the sources it reads. Reviews are the rare investment that pays into search and AI visibility at once, and no agency can generate them for you honestly.
Does local SEO help my business get recommended by ChatGPT?
It is currently the most direct thing you can do. We measured what four AI engines retrieve when asked to recommend a business or agency: overwhelmingly directory category pages and review-based listings, not company websites. For a local business that means your Google Business Profile, your reviews and your directory citations are what the engines actually read. Local SEO and AI visibility have effectively become the same project.
Should I hire a local agency or can they be anywhere?
They can be anywhere, and most of the strongest ones work remotely across the US. Local SEO is executed in your Google Business Profile, your citations and your website, none of which require someone in your city. What matters far more is whether they have done it in your industry and in a market of comparable competitiveness.
What should a local SEO agency actually deliver each month?
Map pack rankings for the terms you agreed, tracked from your actual service area rather than a national average. Google Business Profile activity: posts, photos, question responses, category and attribute maintenance. Citation accuracy and cleanup. Review volume and rating trend. And calls, form fills or direction requests, which are the outcomes that pay. Traffic alone tells you very little in local.
How many locations do I need before local SEO gets complicated?
Complexity rises sharply past one. A single location is one profile, one citation set, one review stream. Ten locations means ten profiles that can each be suspended, duplicated or hijacked independently, plus location pages that must be genuinely different rather than a template with the city swapped. If you run more than a handful, ask specifically about multi-location and franchise experience.
Which local SEO company is best for multi-location or franchise businesses?
HigherVisibility lists franchise SEO as a named service and publishes multi-location client results including Caliber Collision and Ziebart. WebFX prices local SEO by number of locations and states citation management across 40+ local listings, which is built for multi-location work. Searchbloom lists franchise SEO among its specialisms too.
Which local SEO company is best for home services and trades?
Funnel Boost Media has the clearest focus here, naming home improvement, home remodeling, home services and automotive among its industries, and publishing lead-volume results including "4,000+ Leads Generated" and "1,900+ Inbound Calls". It is San Antonio based and states a 4.9 Google rating from 257 reviews.
Do local SEO agencies require long contracts?
It varies and it is the fastest question to ask. Thrive Agency states month-to-month contracts are available. Searchbloom states "No Lengthy Contracts". Others quote six or twelve month minimums. Neither approach is automatically wrong, but you should know which you are signing before the first invoice, and who owns your Google Business Profile and content if you leave.
Can I do local SEO myself?
A meaningful amount of it, yes. Claiming and completing your Google Business Profile, choosing accurate categories, adding real photos, posting regularly and asking happy customers for reviews are all things an owner can do well and nobody can do for you convincingly. Where agencies earn their fee is citation cleanup at scale, competitive analysis, location page architecture and technical work.
What are the red flags when hiring a local SEO company?
Guaranteed map pack positions, because nobody controls Google. Agencies that want to own your Google Business Profile rather than be added as a manager. Bulk citation submissions to hundreds of low-quality directories. Any offer to generate reviews for you, which violates Google policy and risks your profile. And reporting that shows rankings and traffic but never calls or direction requests.
What is NAP consistency and does it still matter?
Name, address and phone number, and yes, though less than it did a decade ago. Google is better at resolving small differences than it used to be. Where it still bites is genuine conflicts: an old address on a major directory, a tracking number on some listings and the real number on others, or duplicate profiles from a previous owner. Those are worth fixing properly and are a common first-month task.
How do I track whether local SEO is working?
Four numbers, monthly. Map pack position for your money terms, checked from inside your service area. Calls from your Google Business Profile. Direction requests. And form fills or bookings attributed to organic and local. If your report leads with impressions and sessions, ask for these four instead, because a business can gain traffic and lose customers at the same time.
Is FactoryJet a local SEO specialist?
We do local SEO and have a local SEO service page, but we are a smaller shop than the seven agencies ranked above us here and we are not going to claim otherwise. WebFX states 750+ staff, Thrive 160+. Where we are genuinely competitive is smaller businesses that want local SEO and AI search visibility handled as one project rather than two, with month-to-month terms and the founder actually on the account.
Why is FactoryJet eighth on its own list?
Because that is where the evidence puts us on this particular service. Most agencies publishing a roundup put themselves first. We ranked seven larger, longer-established local SEO agencies above us, and if you want the biggest team or the longest map pack track record the answer on this page is not us. A list that pretended otherwise would not survive being checked, and being checkable is the only reason a page like this is worth reading.
Should I read this list or go to your local SEO service page?
Depends where you are. If you are still deciding who to approach, stay here: this compares eight agencies on what each is actually good at. If you have decided to hire and want scope and terms, go to our local SEO service page. We keep the two separate deliberately.
How was this list researched?
We asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, each with live web search on, to recommend US local SEO companies across three phrasings, twelve answers in total, and recorded every agency named and how often. We then pulled the live US Google results for the head terms to cross-check. Finally we fetched each shortlisted agency’s own website on 7 September 2026 and used only claims stated there. Boostability was named in 3 of 12 answers but its website returned an HTTP 403 to our fetch, so we left it out rather than describe it from memory. No agency paid to appear and no review scores were invented.
